英国の市場調査会社であるIpsos MORIは、2020年4月、主要国におけるCOVID-19と気候変動や環境問題に関する意識調査を発表しました。主にイギリスの意識調査を目的にしていたとのことですが、日本におけるCOVID-19と気候変動問題への意識について興味深い結果をいくつか紹介します。
Q: 長期的にみて気候変動はCOVID-19と同じくらい深刻な危機である：賛成―日本72％、世界平均と同程度。
Q: COVID-19からの経済復興は気候変動対策に優先順位を置くべきである：賛成―日本64％、世界平均と同程度。
Q: 環境に悪影響があっても、政府は経済復興を最優先すべきである：賛成―日本は調査国の中で賛成率が最低の35％
Q: 政治家が取り組むべき最も重要な環境問題を三つあげるとしたら：日本は、温暖化・気候変動を優先するとした回答者の割合が調査国間で最も高く54％
Q: もし政党が気候変動に真剣に取り組まないならば、票を投じないだろう：日本は調査国の中でも下から2番目の41％
世界の国々と相対的に比較した場合、調査時において、日本は気候変動をCOVID-19同等の危機とみなし、政策的に優先事項と捉え、COVID-19による経済復興は環境問題を引き起こすべきでないとする意見が多いながらも、政党による気候変動・環境問題の政治アジェンダ化の期待は必ずしも高くないようです。
