成果の概要

Under the Green Asia+ Project, field observations and measurements were conducted in rice fields under three water management regimes (continuous flooding, alternate wetting and drying, and intermittent irrigation) in northwestern Madagascar. Preliminary observations indicated that improved water management practices maintained rice growth comparable to, or better than, that under continuous flooding. Shoot biomass samples were collected to evaluate early growth performance, while soil redox potential and iron toxicity were assessed in all plots. In addition, candidate experimental sites with reliable access to irrigation for the next cropping season were identified during this mission.
Under the B6 African Paddy Field Agriculture Project, a field experiment on sustainable French leek production was established at the CEFFEL (Conseil Expérimentation Formation en Fruits et Légumes) research farm using vermicompost and improved agricultural practices. During the mission, seedling growth was monitored, experimental plots were prepared, and discussions were held with CEFFEL staff on trial management, data collection, and future crop monitoring activities.
