The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) is a national research and development agency that conducts technical tests and research on agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in tropical or subtropical regions and other developing overseas regions. Its purpose is to contribute to the improvement of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries technologies in these regions, and it plays a central role in international contributions and collaborations in this field.
During the 5th Medium to Long-Term Plan of JIRCAS, from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026, the Information Program has worked to strengthen the Center's functions by comprehensively collecting and analyzing information on the challenges and development needs related to agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in developing and tropical/subtropical regions, as well as global food systems, which are becoming increasingly complex and diverse. As an opinion leader on global environmental and food issues, JIRCAS has widely disseminated information both domestically and internationally.
Regarding "Pick Up," which was launched in early 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, articles were updated daily on weekdays throughout the five-year period of the Fifth Medium to Long-Term Plan, as part of activities to collect, organize, and provide analyses of domestic and international materials related to agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. In "Pick Up," reports from international organizations and the latest papers have been used to comprehensively introduce current and geopolitical issues affecting global food security, as well as the latest technologies and policies contributing to food system transformation. Looking back at the most accessed articles over the past five years, those providing statistical information such as global population trends that will determine global food supply and demand in the medium to long term, as well as information on aquaculture technology, attracted significant attention.
