成果の概要

Our project aims to develop early-maturing quinoa varieties with enhanced resilience to climate change in the Bolivian Altiplano (4,000 m.a.s.l.). Specifically, we seek to provide quinoa crops with an effective escape mechanism against short rainfall periods, prolonged drought, and seasonally low temperatures, including winter frost. To advance this objective, I traveled to Bolivia, to harvest quinoa samples from field experiments established at the PROINPA experimental station. The primary goal was to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with early maturity. During the visit, a selected set of breeding lines was harvested based on panicle maturity, using grain hardness as an indicator. The harvested panicles were air-dried, and carefully threshed and cleaned to prevent cross-contamination. Grain evaluation (color and size) was only partially completed due to road blockages from the ongoing political and economic crisis; local counterparts will complete the analysis and submit the results.
