成果の概要

Our Project aims to develop early maturing quinoa cultivars to improve its resilience to climate change in the Bolivian Altiplano (4,000 MASL) by providing an escape mechanism to short rainfall and prolonged drought period, and seasonal low temperature (winter frost). Previously (2023 Oct), we have set experiments at the PROINPA Research Station (Bolivian Altiplano, 3880 MASL) aiming to identify Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs) associated with early maturity. I, therefore, traveled to Bolivia to harvest breeding lines from three crossing populations. The harvest time for each line was decided based on their panicle maturity (grain hardness). Harvested panicles were then placed in paper bags and air-dried, and carefully threshed, to avoid cross contamination. Further grain evaluation (color and size) is being performed. In addition, DNA was extracted, and a library was constructed for genome sequencing. The resulting sequence data will be used for QTL analysis.
