成果の概要

Our Project aims to develop early maturing quinoa cultivars to improve its resilience to climate change in the Bolivian Altiplano (4,000 MASL) by providing an escape mechanism to short rainfall and prolonged drought period, and seasonal low temperature (winter frost). Previously (2023 Oct), we set experiments at the PROINPA Research Station (Bolivian Altiplano, 3880 MASL) aiming to identify Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs) associated with early maturity. I, therefore, traveled to Bolivia to monitor the field experiments and collect panicle maturity data from three crossing populations. The harvesting time was based on panicle maturity.
In addition, I have participated in a joint meeting of SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development), JICA and JST evaluation team, and visited farms producing quinoa under adverse environmental conditions (low fertility soil, salinity, and wind erosion).
