成果の概要

Our Project aims to develop early maturing quinoa with enhanced resilience to climate change in the Bo-livian Altiplano (4,000 MASL). The goal is to provide an escape mechanism for quinoa crops from short rainfall periods, prolonged drought, and seasonal low temperature (winter frost). To advance this task, I traveled to Bolivia to monitor field experiments set in the PROINPA (アンデス農業研究普及機関) Research Station, aiming to identify Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) associated to early maturity. During my visit, we implemented agronomic practices such as weeding and pest control following the local procedure. We installed an anti-bird net that completely covered the experimental plot to protect the panicle and grain from bird damage. Barcode labels were attached to selected plants of each breeding line to collect flowering and maturing date. In addition, we visited the trials and on-farm demonstration plot at Uyuni site. Plant growth was affected by delayed rainfall and strong winds, which caused the burial of small plants.
