Background

Global challenges such as food security and climate change are becoming increasingly complex amid rapid changes in socio-economic conditions and the natural environment. As the 2030 deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approaches and progress under the Paris Agreement is being assessed, international discussions on the post-SDG agenda are expected to intensify. To enable Japan to leverage its strengths in food systems transformation and contribute to international scientific discussions, it is essential to continuously collect, analyze, and communicate information on global food supply and demand, agricultural development in developing regions, and emerging research trends. JIRCAS is expected to serve as a hub for systematically organizing, visualizing, and disseminating such information while promoting collaboration with governments and research institutions around the world.
