The Philippines (/ˈfɪlᵻpiːnz/; Filipino: Pilipinas [ˌpɪlɪˈpinɐs]), officially the Republic of the Philippines (Filipino: Republika ng Pilipinas), is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of about 7,641 islands that are categorized broadly under three main geographical divisions from north to south: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city of the Philippines is Manila and the most populous city is Quezon City, both part of Metro Manila. Philippine Sugar Regulatory Administration Officials Visit JIRCAS

On March 24–30, 2024, JIRCAS welcomed visitors from the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) of the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines. Ms. Ma. Mitzi V. Mangwag, Board Member and Acting Administrator, together with Atty. Ignacio S. Santillana, Deputy Administrator, visited the Tropical Agricultural Research Front (TARF) in Ishigaki Island and JIRCAS Headquarters in Tsukuba. JIRCAS and SRA are collaborating on three projects: ‘Climate change measures in Monsoon Asia,' ‘Yama-Sato-Umi agroecosystem connectivity', and 'Tropical crop genetic resources.'

58 Young Agricultural Trainees from ASEAN Countries Visit JIRCAS

On Monday, February 19, 2024, 58 young agricultural trainees from Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines visited JIRCAS. The trainees were divided into two groups for an introduction to JIRCAS research (indoor lecture) and an outdoor tour at the Hachimandai Experimental Field.

Also, 2022 is the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture.
