58 Young Agricultural Trainees from ASEAN Countries Visit JIRCAS

On Monday, February 19, 2024, 58 young agricultural trainees from Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines visited JIRCAS. The trainees were divided into two groups for an introduction to JIRCAS research (indoor lecture) and an outdoor tour at the Hachimandai Experimental Field.

Video on Environmental Conservation and Efforts to Prevent Red Soil Runoff in Okinawa Now Available

An international meeting to share knowledge on how to balance agricultural production and environmental conservation in tropical islands was held a year ago with participants from the Okinawa Prefectural Government, Ishigaki City Government, and the Department of Agriculture, Republic of the Philippines. A video presented at the meeting featuring efforts to protect the beautiful nature and precious blessings of the land and sea in Okinawa has been released with English subtitles.

Proceedings of the JIRCAS-SEAFDEC/AQD Joint Workshop on Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) Research

JIRCAS, in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in the Philippines, conducted a 10-year research project on Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) from 2011, to promote sustainable and equitable production of marine products in the Asian monsoon region. We have now published the proceedings of the workshop held in August 2019.

MoU with Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), Department of Agriculture, Republic of the Philippines

On March 17, 2022, JIRCAS held a signing ceremony for a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint research with the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), Department of Agriculture, Republic of the Philippines.

TARF Held the International Meeting on “Balancing Agricultural Production and Environmental Conservation on Tropical Islands”

The JIRCAS Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) held the international meeting with the theme “Balancing Agricultural Production and Environmental Conservation on Tropical Islands” on February 14, 2022. The representatives from the local government offices of Okinawa Prefecture and Ishigaki City participated onsite, and the representatives from the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines joined online.

PhilRice Magazine Article Introduces WeRise

An article in the PhilRice Magazine, a quarterly publication of Philippine Rice Research Institute, introduced the JIRCAS efforts on WeRise to a wide range of readers including rice researchers and farmers in the Philippines and other countries.

Delegation from the Sugar Regulatory Administration of the Philippines Visits JIRCAS

A six-member delegation led by Administrator Hermenegildo R. Serafica of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), Department of Agriculture, Philippines, visited JIRCAS Headquarters in Tsukuba and the Tropical Agricultural Research Front (TARF) in Ishigaki on February 4-10, 2018 to enhance the JIRCAS-SRA partnership and provide impetus to the current collaborative project.

IRRI Director General Visits JIRCAS

The Director General of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Dr. Matthew K. Morell, visited JIRCAS on August 29, 2019, with Mr. Oliver B. Frith, Head of IRRI Business Development Office.

JIRCAS renews Joint Research Agreement with the Philippine Sugar Regulatory Administration and receives certificate of appreciation

JIRCAS, in collaboration with the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) , an agency under the Department of Agriculture, Philippines, has been conducting a series of studies in Negros Island since 2016, with the aim of developing adequate nitrogen fertilizer application methods for sugarcane cultivation in the country by adjusting the timing and application rate to fertilizer demand.

Announcement of Awardees and Awarding Ceremony of the 2011 Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers

On November 14, 2011, the Awarding Ceremony of the 2011 Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers was held at Tsukuba International Congress Center Epochal, Tsukuba City, Japan. The ceremony was well attended by many participants, including members of the Selection Committee and diplomats from the country embassies of the Awardees.
