A group of 29 students from Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka in the Graduate School of Agriculture, Ibaraki University visited JIRCAS on December 4, 2019 as part of the Regional Sustainability Course.
JIRCAS Participates in the International Workshop on Facilitating International Research Collaboration on Transboundary Plant Pests
As the current MACS-G20 Chair, JIRCAS Pres. Masa Iwanaga participated as Chair of the "International Workshop on Facilitating International Research Collaboration on Transboundary Plant Pests” organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) at the Tsukuba International Congress Center on November 27-29, 2019.
The awarding ceremony for the 2019 Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers, also known as the “Japan Award” was held at the Tsukuba International Congress Center in Tsukuba, Ibaraki on November 26, 2019. The recipients of the Japan Award 2019 included researchers from Colombia, Vietnam and India.
JIRCAS International Symposium 2019 Focuses on Tackling Transboundary Plant Pests and Contributing to SDGs
From the perspective of contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the JIRCAS International Symposium 2019 focusing on international research collaboration to tackle transboundary plant pests was held at the Tsukuba International Congress Center on November 26, 2019.
A delegation of executive officers from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) including Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh (Directorate of Water Resources) and Mr. Nguyen Hong Khanh (Water Management Bureau) visited JIRCAS on November 27, 2019.
A group of students from the Tsuchiura Daiichi Senior High School visited JIRCAS on November 22, 2019 as part of the school program on deepening their knowledge of the activities of companies, research institutes, and government offices, and foster a feeling of positive contribution to society.
JIRCAS presented an exhibit featuring research activities related to IoT research at the Agribusiness Creation Fair 2019 held from November 20-22, 2019 at Tokyo Big Sight West 4 Hall in Ariake, Tokyo.
JIRCAS presented an exhibit of recent research activities at the Science Agora 2019, an open forum aimed at deepening the relationship between “science” and “society”, held on November 16-17, 2019 at the Telecom Center Building in Aomi, Tokyo.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for promoting joint research collaboration between JIRCAS and the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) was concluded in a signing ceremony held on November 13, 2019 at the Alfa House in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In commemoration of the establishment of a demonstration plant for fertilizer production using phosphate rock, a handover ceremony was held at the Institute of Environment and Agriculture Research (INERA) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on October 24, 2019.
A delegation from the Agricultural Genetics Institute (AGI) of Vietnam including the Director General, Dr. Pham Xuan Hoi, visited JIRCAS on November 1, 2019 to acquire information on current trends in biotechnology, particularly genome editing and marker selection for rice breeding, and to explore the possibility of research collaboration in the future.

Dr. Akira Hirano, senior researcher of the Social Sciences Division was honored with the “Green Asia Award” at the 40th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS 2019) which was held in Daejeon, Korea on October 14-18, 2019.
JIRCAS participates in the “International Workshop on Food Loss and Waste Prevention targeting Southeast and East Asia region”
The “International Workshop on Food Loss and Waste Prevention targeting Southeast and East Asia region” organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan as the presidency holder of 2019 MACS-G20, FAO Japan, UN Environment and Thünen Institute was held from October 16 to 18, 2019 at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan.
A delegation from the CGIAR Genebank Platform including Dr. Tom Payne (Management Team Chair, CIMMYT), Dr. Charlotte Lutsy (Genebank Platform Coordinator, Crop Trust), and Dr. Noelle Anglin (Genebank Manager, CIP) visited JIRCAS on October 9, 2019.
