Contribution to Methane Emission Reduction through Rice Paddy Water Management
On June 28, 2024, JIRCAS co-hosted a press conference with NARO on the completion of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) methodology for rice paddy methane reduction in the Philippines through an ADB-supported project. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
This meeting was held following the agreement on the draft methodology for methane reduction in rice paddies using Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technology in the Philippines, reached at the 5th Expert Committee meeting held on June 25 at the ADB headquarters in Manila. A total of 90 participants attended in person (including 26 press representatives from 18 companies), and 113 participants attended online.
JIRCAS Senior Researcher MINAMIKAWA Kazunori (Crop, Livestock and Environment Division) has been cooperating on the development of this JCM methodology as a member of the Expert Committee. During the press conference, he presented the details of the agreed JCM methodology.
