成果の概要
The Project-Activity 2 aims to develop breeding materials of quinoa enabling early maturing and resilience enhancement for the Altiplano and other regions of Bolivia. The Santa Cruz region is believed to have a great potential for cultivating quinoa as a winter crop replacing wheat. The winter cropping season is from April to October (dry season with mild ambient temperature, 26°C). Several breeding lines were evaluated in Santa Cruz and candidate lines were selected for further agronomic trial and variety registration process. The experiment plots were set in three different sites along the Santa Cruz region. We traveled to Santa Cruz -Bolivia to monitor the field performance of the candidate lines in the experimental sites. The candidate line selected showed better performance than the varieties used in the highlands. In addition, we observed quinoa commercialization in Santa Cruz local markets and supermarkets, and consumption in dishes as soups and salads. Quinoa cultivation may therefore have good potential for both exportation and domestic market purposes.
