1351. Release of "Technical Catalog Ver. 4.0" to Contribute to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region

On October 1, 2025, JIRCAS released version 4.0 of the "Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region (hereinafter referred to as the Technology Catalog Ver. 4.0)" on its official website.

The newly released Ver. 4.0 adds four new technologies, expanding the total number of technologies included to 44. It also updates two technologies that were included in Ver. 3.0 but whose scope of application has expanded due to research advances, including "A simple and accurate method for estimating soil carbon sequestration using biochar based on proximate analysis."

These technologies are expected to be utilized by domestic and international research institutions and in international collaborations to contribute to the establishment of resilient and sustainable agricultural and food systems in the Asia-Monsoon region. This will enable the results of research originating in Japan and international collaborative research to be utilized more widely, and is expected to contribute to improving the sustainability of food systems in ASEAN countries in particular. Since the first edition, the number of participating institutions has expanded, and as of Ver. 3.0, five national research and development agencies and seven universities are providing technical information.

Furthermore, for areas that are attracting attention, such as "methods for estimating carbon storage using biochar," we are not just compiling individual technologies, but are also creating reports that include related technologies as a group of technologies. These reports are published on the JIRCAS website as the "Green Asia Report Series."

The Technology Catalog and Green Asia Report Series are produced and published primarily by JIRCAS as part of the Green Asia Project, which is based on the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' Green Food System Strategy.

This catalog has been disseminated internationally through the United Nations Food Systems Coordination Hub, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the ASEAN Secretariat, and is widely used by a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, researchers, extension workers, farmers, foresters, fishermen, and the private sector, from around the world, particularly in the Asia-Monsoon region. By continuing to provide and share technical information, we will continue to contribute to the creation of sustainable food systems in the Asia-Monsoon region.

The JIRCAS International Symposium 2025, to be held on October 27th, will focus on the activities of the Green Asia Project, and will feature a panel exhibition and an introduction of the technologies listed in the Technology Catalog at the venue.
