Points:

  • The Technology Catalog Ver. 4.0 for the Asia-Monsoon region, in line with the Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems, MIDORI, was published on the JIRCAS website on October 1, 2025.
  • The catalog includes updated information on two existing technologies and four newly added technologies, expanding the total to 44 technologies.
  • By aligning with the ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan, which includes the Technology Catalog as Annex 3, the catalog is expected to further contribute to building sustainable food systems across ASEAN countries.

Outline

JIRCAS has officially released the “Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region Ver. 4.0” on October 1, 2025 on its website. The catalog is designed to both increase production potential and to ensure sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon region.

In the newly released Ver. 4.0 of the Technology Catalog, JIRCAS has updated two technologies—including the method for estimating carbon sequestration through biochar, whose applicability has expanded due to research progress—and added four new technologies, bringing the total to 44.

These technologies, developed in Japan or through international collaborative research partnerships, were featured in Annex 3 of the revised ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan, introduced at the Second Meeting of the ASEAN-Japan Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry (2nd AJMAF) on October 2, 2025. They are expected to contribute to the development of resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems in the Asia-Monsoon region.

Since the initial edition of the catalog, the number of participating institutions has steadily increased. Starting from Ver. 3.0, five national research and development agencies and seven universities have contributed to the catalog.

The Technology Catalog has been shared internationally through the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the ASEAN Secretariat’s websites.

In response to growing interest in high-impact areas such as carbon sequestration through biochar, JIRCAS has also developed thematic reports that go beyond the inclusion of individual technologies in the catalog. These reports encompass related background, mechanisms, challenges, and prospects, offering a more comprehensive understanding of the technologies’ potential applications. These reports are publicly available on the JIRCAS website as part of the Green Asia Report Series, which aims to support evidence-based policymaking and promote sustainable agricultural innovation in the Asia-Monsoon region.

The Technology Catalog and the Green Asia Report Series have been developed and published by JIRCAS as part of the Green Asia Project, in line with Japan’s Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems, MIDORI.

The Technology Catalog Ver. 4.0 is expected to be widely utilized by a diverse range of stakeholders—including government officials, researchers, extension agents, producers, and private sector actors—particularly in the Asia-Monsoon region. By continuing to provide and share technical information, JIRCAS aims to further contribute to the development of sustainable food systems across the region.
