Background

In line with the MIDORI Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems, Japan has enhanced both productivity potential and sustainability in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and food systems, while supporting the dissemination of scalable agricultural technologies in the Asia-Monsoon region. More recently, A new Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas formulated under the revised Basic Act on Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas and initiatives such as the ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan, the Overseas Deployment Package for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Technologies, and the Global MIDORI Cooperation Plan have highlighted the growing importance of expanding technology dissemination throughout the Global South, including ASEAN countries. In response, there is a need for a new framework that extends technology dissemination beyond the Asia- Monsoon region and promotes the international application of Japan's scalable agricultural technologies. JIRCAS is expected to play a leading role in compiling and disseminating technology information and building collaborative networks that support the demonstration and implementation of promising technologies.

Objectives

This project continuously disseminates information on scalable agricultural technologies applicable to the Global South, including ASEAN countries, as well as information relevant to international rule-making through international conferences, reports, and related activities. It also identifies challenges to technology dissemination and contributes to policy recommendations that facilitate wider technology adoption.
