902.  TICAD 30th Anniversary Official Side Event "Toward Building Sustainable and Resilient Food System in Africa"

This year marks the 30th anniversary of TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development), inaugurated in 1993 under the auspices of the Japanese government. Agricultural development in Africa requires appropriate approach that recognizes and respects diversity in agricultural production and food consumption.

To commemorate this milestone, JIRCAS will host a hybrid seminar on December 1, titled "Toward Building a Sustainable and Resilient Food System in Africa." This official side event celebrates the three decades of TICAD, shedding light on pivotal issues concerning agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in Africa. The seminar will delve into Japan's contributions to these sectors, providing insights into the historical and current landscape of international joint research, along with identifying ongoing research needs.

The seminar's agenda includes discussions on the diverse facets of African agriculture—spanning crops, water resources, soil, microorganisms, agricultural management, and nutritional supply.
