Iwatechuoh Agricultural Cooperatives (JA Iwatechuoh) is a Japanese agricultural cooperative which works in the central region of Iwate Prefecture, Northeast Japan. For a long time, JA Iwatechuoh has been promoting local agricultural commodity exports to Thailand. Apple, which was firstly exported to Thailand six years ago, is the most successful export product from Iwate. To further expansion of apple export and investigation into other export potential of agricultural products, a study team, leading by Mr. Nagayasu Sugihara, Director General of Morioka Regional Development office, Iwate Prefecture, and Mr. Tosen Fujio, President of JA Iwatechuoh, visited Thailand. According to the request from JA Iwatechuoh, JIRCAS organized the study team to visit Thai Department of Agriculture (DOA) on November 11, 2014. During their visiting, the study team made a courtesy call on Mr. Anan Swannarat, Director General of DOA, and collected information about the agricultural export promotion policy in DOA. The team also visited the Postharvest and Products Processing Research and Development Office of DOA, and exchanged information and opinions on quality improvement of agricultural products for export, such as development of aflatoxin detection kit for agricultural commodities.
