1366. World Development Information Day

October 24th is World Development Information Day. This international day, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly and specialized UN agencies, is an important day for supporting developing countries and encouraging solutions to social and economic development challenges. In particular, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have become widely discussed in recent years, reaffirming the importance of development information. This anniversary serves as an opportunity for individuals and businesses to consider how information can be used to promote poverty reduction, education, and environmental issues, and to contribute to society.

Developing countries, in particular, need international cooperation to foster science and technology appropriate for each country and improve their capabilities to accelerate development.

At the JIRCAS International Symposium 2025 to be held next Monday, October 27th, we will present the achievements of the Green Asia Project, which has been working with many research institutes and international organizations to promote the dissemination of information aimed at accelerating the implementation of technologies that contribute to the transformation of food systems in the Asian monsoon region. We will also discuss the needs to be addressed in the next phase of the project and the lessons that may be applicable to other regions.
