1316. JIRCAS Events at TICAD9
The 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) is scheduled to be held in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, 2025. JIRCAS, with partners, will hold the following events.
TICAD9 Thematic Event (MAFF) "Fostering the Future Through International Collaborative Research: Young Researchers Engaging with Africa"
The sustainable development of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in Africa requires the promotion of international collaborative research and the development of the next generation of researchers. There is a growing demand for highly specialized human resources in various fields such as agriculture, food, nutrition, and climate change in Africa. In Japan, nurturing and supporting individuals engaged in research and international cooperation in Africa is also a crucial issue.
This event will feature early-career researchers from both Africa and Japan, who will share their on-the-ground experiences and insights gained through international collaborative research. Building on JIRCAS’s more than 50 years of experiments in this field, the event will also include a panel discussion on strengthening research networks and exploring new possibilities for international collaboration aimed at sustainable development in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.
Aligned with TICAD9’s theme, “Co-creating Innovative Solutions with Africa,” this event aims to showcase the efforts and realities faced by young researchers, highlight Japan’s contributions to international development, and promote the formation of future-oriented networks and human resources.
