Developing Climate-Resilient Technologies for Tropical Forestry【Climate-Resilient Forestry】
2026-10-08
Background
Tropical forests provide timber and many essential ecosystem services, including watershed protection and biodiversity conservation. However, increasing development pressure, rising temperatures, drought stress, and extreme rainfall associated with climate change are accelerating forest degradation and reducing both productivity and ecosystem functions. In major tropical forestry regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, climate-adaptive tree breeding and resilient forest management technologies remain underdeveloped.
Objectives
This project evaluates the productivity and climate vulnerability of major tropical forest genetic resources and production forests in Southeast Asia and develops forest resource management technologies that enable adaptation to climate change.
Research Themes
- Assessment of climate vulnerability in tropical forest genetic resources and development of utilization technologies
- Development and impact assessment of silvicultural technologies that enhance resilience to climate change
- Sharing of information on forest genetic resources and their utilization for climate change adaptation
Target Countries
Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia
