From June 16 to 18, 2025, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) participated in the “FAO Global Agrifood Biotechnologies Conference” held at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The theme of the conference was “Biotechnologies for a Sustainable Future.” Experts from around the world gathered to engage in active discussions on the latest technologies and applications in agriculture and the food sector.
From JIRCAS, Program Director for Food FUJITA Yasunari and Project Leader YOSHIHASHI Tadashi (BNI System) spoke at the high-level preliminary session. Dr. Fujita gave a presentation on “Molecular Biological Research for the Development of Stress-Tolerant and Resilient Crops,” while Dr. Yoshihashi spoke about “The Latest Developments in Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) and Its Potential Contributions Toward Adaptation and Mitigation Goals.” Both presentations drew significant interest from attendees.
On Days 2 and 3 of the conference, JIRCAS also hosted an exhibition booth to introduce its research activities and engage in dialogue with numerous research institutions. The booth attracted many visitors, particularly those interested in international cooperation and addressing development challenges in the Global South. Lively discussions were held throughout.
Participation in this conference served as an important step toward deepening collaboration with international research organizations and building future partnerships.
