1094. JIRCAS Awarded at Thailand National Science and Technology Fair 2024

The Thailand National Science and Technology Fair is the largest science and technology exhibition in Thailand, held annually. This year, it was held for 10 days from August 16 to 25 at the IMPACT Exhibition and Conference Center in Nonthaburi Province. During the exhibition, there were about 200,000 visitors, mainly local elementary, junior high, and high school students.

JIRCAS Southeast Asia Liaison Office, located in Bangkok, has been exhibiting at the expo every year since 2007, except for two years when it was unable to participate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to JIRCAS, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and Technology (JSPS), Kyoto University/ the Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP), Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Chulalongkorn University, the International Origami Airplane Association, and the Cabinet Office exhibited at the booth organized by the Embassy of Japan in Thailand. 

Continuing from last year, JIRCAS showcased the results of its international joint research with the Food Research Institute of Kasetsart University on Khanom Chin, a traditional fermented food in Thailand. The picture book on Khanom Chin, which was created by JIRCAS to explain the results, was very popular with visitors because it was written in Thai.

In addition, many elementary, junior high, and high school students used their smartphones to view information about Khanom Chin via QR codes.

The grand opening of the fair was attended by Her Excellency Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. At the award ceremony, Mr. Permsuk Sutchaphiwat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, presented the trophy in recognition of the organization's invaluable contribution to science and technology education in Thailand.
