Information

JIRCAS is co-organizing the International Workshop of Southeast Asia Research-based Network on Climate Change Adaptation Science (SARNCCAS) with the Global and Regional Environmental Co-creation Institute (GLEC) of Ibaraki University to be held online on September 16-17, 2021.

GLEC is a center for research and education to promote cross-research based on field surveys in various fields and to disseminate high academic results in order to realize a sustainable society in response to global environmental changes. So far, GLEC has formed a solid network with institutions in Southeast Asia such as the Vietnam-Japan University (VJU) and Vietnam Institute for Economics and Research Policy (VIE) by promoting human resource development and joint research on climate change.

Since JIRCAS promotes international collaborations and inter-disciplinary cooperation through the formation of research projects, it has much in common with GLEC, which led to its participation as a co-organizer of this workshop.

In the afternoon of the first day, Dr. HAYASHI Keiichi, Director of the Environment Program, will introduce the JIRCAS international research network for climate change, and Dr. IZUMI Taro, Project Leader of the “Climate change measures in Monsoon Asia”, will give an overview of the project in the 5th Medium to Long-Term Plan (2021-2025) of JIRCAS.

The morning oral presentation session on the second day will be chaired by Dr. FURUYA Jun, Director of the Social Sciences Division, and Dr. WU Wen-Chao of the same division will give a presentation on the potential of bioenergy in the world under environmental protection policies.

In this workshop, young researchers from overseas who are involved in climate change will present posters, and students from Ibaraki University Junior High School will also present their research results in English and participate in discussions using an online whiteboard.

Registration for presentations has already closed, but registration for online attendees is open until noon on September 15. Anyone interested in climate change is welcome to attend and join us.
