Six Participants Visit TARF as Part of an Optional Tour for the MEXT Grants-in-Aid Project "Plant resilience under fluctuating environment" Conference
On March 13, 2025 (Thursday), as part of an optional tour related to the conference for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)'s Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) project titled "Plant resilience under fluctuating environment," a group of six people led by Professor SAZE Hidetoshi of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) visited the Tropical Agriculture Research Front of JIRCAS.
Project Leader KOBORI Youichi Wins International IPM Award of Excellence at the 11th International Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Symposium
Dr. KOBORI Youichi, a project leader in the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division, received the prestigious International IPM Award of Excellence during the 11th International Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Symposium held in San Diego, California, USA, from March 3 to March 6, 2025.
Officers from the AFFRC Secretariat’s Research Planning Division Visit TARF
From March 4 to 5, 2025 (Tue–Wed), five staff members from the Innovation Strategy Office of the Research Planning Division, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Research Council (AFFRC) Secretariat, visited the Tropical Agriculture Research Front of JIRCAS. They observed research activities as well as related experimental fields and facilities.
JIRCAS Signs Comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Agricultural Research with the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM)
On February 26, 2025 (Wednesday), JIRCAS signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM), located in Kuala Lumpur, to collaborate on agricultural research.
A Cross-Talk Discussion about Global Warming and Transboundary Pests at the "Wednesday Night Science Café"
On February 19, 2025 (Wednesday), as part of the Science Café series held every Wednesday night at the "co-en" event space near Tsukuba Station, a session titled "A 1°C Change Brings Great Transformation! ~Changing Weather and Transboundary Pests~" took place. The speakers included Dr. KOBORI Youichi, Project Leader at JIRCAS, and Dr. KAWASE Hiroaki, Senior Researcher at the Meteorological Research Institute's Applied Meteorology Division.
52 Young Agricultural Professionals from ASEAN Countries Visit JIRCAS
On February 18, 2025 (Tuesday), 52 young agricultural professionals from Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines visited JIRCAS. This visit was part of the "Human Resource Development Project for Improving Food Production Capacity in Asia," implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and supported by the Japan Agricultural Exchange Council.
JCM methodology for methane emission reduction in rice cultivation in the Philippines has been approved
The Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) methodology for “Methane Emission Reduction by Water Management in Rice Paddy Fields” was approved by the Joint Committee for the JCM between the Philippines and Japan on 3 February 2025.

Students from the Department of International Agricultural Development at Tokyo University of Agriculture visit JIRCAS
On December 20, 2024 (Friday), six students from the Department of International Agricultural Development at Tokyo University of Agriculture visited JIRCAS as part of their seminar activities with the Rural Development Cooperation Research Laboratory. The visit began with an introduction to the research activities of JIRCAS, followed by lectures from several researchers and a tour of the facilities.
