Siregar and Fifi Gus Dwiyanti from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB University), along with Director Yayat Hidayat from Bandung Institute of Technology, ITB) visited the Forestry Division of JIRCAS, accompanied by representatives from the National Institute of Genetics and the National Institute for Environmental Studies.

Indonesia boasts the largest forest area in Southeast Asia, but it faces various challenges related to forest resource degradation, tree breeding, and mangrove conservation. The Forestry Division is addressing these issues through its Environmentally Adaptive Forestry project and the SATREPS Tropical Forest Resilience project in Indonesia.

During the visit, presentations were made on the ecological functions of mangrove ecosystems and genome selection breeding techniques for valuable tree species such as Dipterocarpaceae. A lively discussion took place during the Q&A session with Senior Researchers TANI Naoki, SUWA Renpei, and TANAKA Kenzo, leading to meaningful exchanges of opinions on future research promotion.
