Foreign Students from Ibaraki University Visit JIRCAS

A group of 29 students from Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka in the Graduate School of Agriculture, Ibaraki University visited JIRCAS on December 4, 2019 as part of the Regional Sustainability Course.

A group of 29 students from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Ibaraki University visited JIRCAS on December 4, 2019 as part of the Regional Sustainability Course. The visitors included students from Indonesian universities educational exchange program with Ibaraki University such as Udanaya University, Gadjah Mada University and Bogor University, as well as exchange students from Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka.

JIRCAS Senior Researcher Dr. Naoki Tani (Forestry Division) gave a lecture on the breeding, renewal and conservation of genetic diversity of tropical forests in Malaysia, and Project Leader Dr. Naruo Matsumoto (Crop, Livestock and Environment Division) introduced the project on management of soil carbon accumulation in tropical fields in Thailand.

The Regional Sustainability Course at Ibaraki University is designed to provide the students with deeper understanding of agricultural research towards economic development in rural communities. The visiting foreign students were briefed particularly on research collaboration of JIRCAS on the sustainable management of the environment and natural resources in tropical countries.
