A group of ten first-year students of the Master of Science program and one professor from the Department of Global Agricultural Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences of the University of Tokyo visited JIRCAS on November 9, 2023. This visit was organized as part of the Advanced International Agricultural Studies II course.

The Department of Global Agricultural Sciences aims to educate globally-minded professionals capable of addressing pressing international challenges, particularly in the areas of food security and environmental sustainability. These challenges have become increasingly important on a global scale, requiring a broad understanding grounded in agricultural science and the ability to develop effective solutions.

During the visit, participants were introduced to the organizational structure of JIRCAS and gained insights into its ongoing research initiatives. In fruitful discussions with several JIRCAS researchers, they had the opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives. The group then embarked on guided tours of the Fisheries Research Facility, the Soil Analysis Laboratory and the Greenhouse. 

This visit served as a valuable platform for students interested in international issues, providing them with a first-hand understanding of JIRCAS' mission to contribute to global challenges such as food security and environmental sustainability. We sincerely thank the delegation from the University of Tokyo for their visit and participation in this enriching experience.
