2025 (19th) Japan Award and JIRCAS International Symposium 2025 Archive Videos Now Available

On Monday, October 27, 2025, the Awarding Ceremony of the 2025 (19th) Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers (also known as the Japan Award), hosted by the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Research Council of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the JIRCAS International Symposium 2025, titled "Accelerating Application of Agricultural Technologies in the Asia-Monsoon Region," were held in a hybrid format at Hitotsubashi Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
We are pleased to announce that the archive videos of both events are now available on the YouTube "JIRCAS Channel." 

Release of Symposium Archive: “Long-Term Impacts of Climate Change on Global Food Supply and Demand and Food Security”

On December 5, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) hosted the international symposium “Long-Term Impacts of Climate Change on Global Food Supply and Demand and Food Security” at Yasuyo Auditorium, the University of Tokyo.

Dr. MATSUI Kayo Wins Best Oral Presentation Award at the International Salinity Conference

Dr. MATSUI Kayo (Researcher, Rural Development Division) received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the International Salinity Conference 3.0 – WE-CARE-2025, held in Goa, India, from October 29 to November 1, 2025.

JIRCAS International Symposium 2025 Held

On October 27, 2025, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) held the JIRCAS International Symposium 2025 at Hitotsubashi Hall in Tokyo. The theme of the symposium was: “Accelerating Application of Agricultural Technologies in the Asia-Monsoon Region: Taking Stock and the Way Forward for Enhancing Production Potentials and Sustainable Food Systems.”

JIRCAS Research Achievements Recognized by FAO

To commemorate its 80th anniversary, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched an initiative to recognize “Impactful Solutions”—outstanding technologies and practices proposed by FAO member countries that contribute to agriculture, farmers, and food security.
Four research achievements proposed by the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) were selected for this honor and officially recognized by FAO.

Technical Workshop on Methane Emission-Reducing Water Management Held at the Royal University of Agriculture, Cambodia

On September 17, 2025, a technical workshop on methane emission-reducing water management was held at the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, as part of the RiceGX-SATREPS project led by the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS).

Senior Researcher UEDA Yoshiaki Selected as Recipient of the 2025 Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists

Dr. UEDA Yoshiaki, Senior Researcher in the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division at the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 (The 24th) Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists.

Showcasing SATREPS Bolivia Research Achievements at the Osaka-Kansai Expo — The Wisdom of the Andes and the Technology of Japan: Supporting the Future of Food and Environment

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and the Embassy of the Plurinational State of Bolivia in Japan co-hosted a public event titled “The Wisdom of the Andes and the Technology of Japan: Supporting the Future of Food and the Environment” at the Pop-up Stage Inner East at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The event showcased the research achievements of the SATREPS Bolivia Project and highlighted the richness of Bolivian agriculture and food culture.
 

Participation in the “Joint Information Session on Research Institutions for Doctoral Students” Organized by the University of Tsukuba

On Monday, September 29, 2025, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) participated as an exhibitor in the “Joint Information Session on Research Institutions for Doctoral Students” held at the Tsukuba International Congress Center, hosted by the University of Tsukuba. This event, held for the first time this year, was designed to help doctoral students gain a better understanding of the work conducted at domestic research institutions and to support their future career development.
