JIRCAS Showcases Research Achievements at “MAHA 2024,” Malaysia’s Largest Agricultural Exhibit
The 2024 Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture & Agrotourism Show (MAHA 2024) was held from September 11 (Wed) to 22 (Sun) at MAEPS Serdang in Malaysia. MAHA, organized by the Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) and held every two years, is one of the largest agricultural events in Malaysia. This year, the exhibition attracted a record number of approximately 5.51 million visitors.
JIRCAS Holds International Workshop in Cambodia on Methane Emissions Reduction Through Paddy Water Management
On September 27, 2024, an international workshop was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, as part of the SATREPS project that commenced in April of this year, aiming to reduce methane emissions from rice paddies through intermittent irrigation.
Tsukuba Science Outreach Lecture on “Global Food and Nutrition Issues”
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, Dr. SHIRATORI Sakiko (Project Leader, Information and Public Relations Office) delivered a lecture on the theme of “Global Food and Nutrition Issues” at Yatabehigashi Junior High School as part of the Tsukuba Science Outreach Program.

On October 11, 2024 (Friday), 20 second-year students and one faculty member from the Ishikawa Prefectural Kanazawa Nisui High School visited JIRCAS as part of their “Tsukuba Science Tour.”
Forest Researchers from Indonesia Visit JIRCAS
On October 10, 2024, Vice Rector Iskandar Z. Siregar and Fifi Gus Dwiyanti from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB University), along with Director Yayat Hidayat from Bandung Institute of Technology, ITB) visited the Forestry Division of JIRCAS, accompanied by representatives from the National Institute of Genetics and the National Institute for Environmental Studies.
JIRCAS Exhibits Research on Oil Palm Recycling Technology at “Global Festa JAPAN 2024”
On September 28-29, 2024 (Sat-Sun), JIRCAS participated in the international cooperation event, “Global Festa JAPAN 2024,” introducing the development of high-value-added technologies for a sustainable palm industry using old oil palm trees while addressing the oil palm industry and related environmental issues.
8th-Grade Students from Tsukuba City Gakuennomori Compulsory Education School Visit JIRCAS for “Workplace Learning Experience”
On July 25-26, 2024 (Thu-Fri), four 8th-grade (2nd-year junior high) students from Tsukuba City Gakuennomori Compulsory Education School visited JIRCAS as part of their “Workplace Learning Experience.” This marks the third visit by students from this school.
Visit of FFTC and other Taiwanese research institutes to JIRCAS
Officials from the Food and Fertilizer Technology Center (FFTC) for the Asian & Pacific Region, the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, the Taichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, and the Taitung Agricultural Research and Extension Station visited JIRCAS.
Malawi Embassy Delegation Visits JIRCAS
On Friday August 2, 2024, a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Japan, led by Deputy Ambassador Joseph Chikwemba, visited JIRCAS and discussed potential collaborations in agricultural research, focusing on technology development toward building new food systems.
Students from School of Agriculture, Tokai University Visit TARF
On Friday, September 6, 2024, 17 students and two faculty members from Tokai University School of Agriculture visited the Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) as part of their “Comprehensive Agricultural Practicum.”
