The Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition released its latest policy brief on June 29, entitled “COVID-19: safeguarding food systems and promoting healthy diets". The Global Panel is a group of international leaders actively involved in nutritional improvement, helping low- and middle-income countries develop evidence-based nutrition policies.

Before the new coronavirus pandemic, about 3 billion people had already eaten inappropriate meals. It is unclear at this time what this number will be due to this decline in income and consumption, but it is expected to increase significantly.

This policy brief focuses on the serious consequences of the new coronavirus on the food system and on people's diets to date. And it shows the decisions and actions needed to keep the food system functioning, recovering quickly from the current crisis, and building resilience and effectiveness for the future.
