1067. New Record Daily Global Average Temperature Reached in July 2024

According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), the global average daily temperature reached an all-time high of 17.09°C on July 21, 2024.

Although it is almost the same as the previous record of 17.08°C on July 6, 2023, the temperature difference between July 2023 and earlier is striking. The highest temperature before July 2023 was 16.8°C observed on August 13, 2016. Since July 3, 2023, the 57 days between July-August 2023 and June-July 2024 have significantly exceeded previous records.

Another sign of warming is the fact that the decade of record highs in average daily temperature is concentrated in the last decade from 2015 to 2024. The difference between the lowest daily maximum temperature in the last decade (2015) and the highest before 2023 (August 13, 2016) was 0.2°C. In contrast, the difference between the 2016 record and the 2023/2024 record is 0.3°C, showing the prominent warming trend in 2023 and 2024.
