Pres. Iwanaga at the Nobel Prize Dialogue Tokyo 2018

The Nobel Prize Dialogue Tokyo 2018, gathering five Nobel Prize winners including 2016 Nobel Laureate in Physiology, Professor Emeritus Yoshinori Ohsumi, was held in Pacifico Yokohama on March 11, 2018. JIRCAS President Dr. Masa Iwanaga was one of the panelists together with the world’s leading scientists, key opinion leaders, and policy makers.

JIRCAS Opens to the Public with 2-day Events

The Open House Day, an annual event in conjunction with the Science and Technology Week was held on April 21-22, 2018 at the JIRCAS Headquarters in Tsukuba, Ibaraki.

Tsuchiura Third Junior High School Students Visit JIRCAS

A group of 35 first-year students and one teacher from the Tsuchiura Third Junior High School visited JIRCAS on September 24, 2019 to learn about the research activities at the actual sites and the local environment of research being conducted by JIRCAS.

Michigan State University Professors Visit JIRCAS

Two distinguished professors from Michigan State University (MSU), Dr. Brad Day and Dr. James Kells, visited JIRCAS on October 2, 2019 and exchanged opinions with JIRCAS President, Dr. Masa Iwanaga, on joint research and the possibility of accepting MSU students to pursue research at JIRCAS.

JIRCAS Research Highlights 2017

The JIRCAS Research Highlight 2017, a compilation of selected R&D achievements for the entire fiscal year promoting the dissemination and wide application of results to academic and non-academic audiences is now available, featuring (1) results in technology development expected to be used in on-site production, (2) results including new methods and knowledge that lead to advancement of science, and (3) results that are extremely effective or helpful in improving administrative measures.

2017 Best Paper Award from the Japanese Society for Tropical Agriculture

Dr. Hidetoshi Asai, Researcher of the Crop Livestock and Environment Division, received the “2017 Best Paper Award” from the Japanese Society for Tropical Agriculture for his paper entitled “Labour-saving practices for the external expansion of swidden agriculture for upland rice production in a mountainous area of Laos”.

JIRCAS International Symposium 2018 focuses on “Women in Fisheries: Sustainable Development Goals and Contributions to Research and Industry”

The JIRCAS International Symposium 2018 with the theme “Women in Fisheries: Sustainable Development Goals and Contributions to Research and Industry” will be held at the U Thant International Conference Hall of the United Nations University (UNU) in Shibuya, Tokyo on November 6, 2018.

44th TARF Public Lecture on Eco-friendly Pest Control Methods

The 44th TARF Public Lecture on eco-friendly pest control methods was held at Ishigaki City, Okinawa Pref. on March 30, 2018. This public lecture has been organized since 2007 with the aim of introducing the research activities of TARF in a way that the general public could easily understand, and to get feedback from local residents on the needs and expectations with implications in daily life.

JIRCAS ranks 7th in Plant Science and Zoology category of ESI highly cited papers

JIRCAS ranks 7th in the “Plant Science and Zoology” category of highly cited papers based on the Essential Science Indicator (ESI) updated ranking of research institutions in Japan released by the Clarivate Analytics of the Web of Science Group on April 19, 2018.

Knowledge transfer seminar for the Royal Forestry Department of Thailand

A knowledge transfer seminar was organized by JIRCAS for the Thai Royal Forestry Department (RFD) on February 6, 2018 in Khon Kaen City, northeastern Thailand. The seminar provided practical information to RFD engineers on developing seedlings suitable for afforestation throughout Thailand.
