Agricultural Extension Officers from Asia and Africa Visit JIRCAS as Part of JICA Training Program
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been conducting training on Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion (SHEP) for extension workers in Asia and Africa based on Japan's technical cooperation program. As a part of this training program, 12 extension officers and 2 advisors from JICA Tsukuba visited JIRCAS on June 28, 2023.
Dissemination of JIRCAS Research Results at the UNFCCC Bonn Climate Change Conference
The Bonn Climate Change Conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Bonn, Germany on June 5-15, 2023. Dr. NOGUCHI Shouji (Director, Forestry Division) and Dr. YOSHIHASHI Tadashi (Project Leader, Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division) presented their research at the 15th Research Dialogue held on June 8th.
Joint Regional Meeting with the Mekong River Commission on Intermittent Irrigation
JIRCAS, in collaboration with the Mekong River Commission (MRC), organized a regional meeting on intermittent irrigation in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, on May 30, 2023.
SATREPS Burkina Faso Releases Four Technical Manuals as Research Output
Four technical manuals summarizing the results of joint research in Burkina Faso have been published, and a ceremony was held to hand them over to the relevant local institutions. The technical manuals consist of English and French versions, respectively.
Project Leader Tsujimoto Talks About Madagascar Research on Lucky FM Ibaraki's "Weekly Newspo!”
Project Leader Tsujimoto made a studio appearance on Lucky FM Ibaraki's radio program "Weekly Newspo" on May 27, 2023, to communicate the importance of rice research in Madagascar and the results of the phosphorus-dipping treatment technology (P-dipping) developed by JIRCAS.
JIRCAS Project on Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Through Paddy Water Management in Cambodia Provisionally Selected for SATREPS Program
The JIRCAS research proposal has been provisionally* selected as a new research project in the field of environment and energy for the FY2023 Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program, which is jointly implemented by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Three TARF Staff Members Receive the MEXT Award for Creativity
On April 7, 2023, three staff members of the technical support officer of the JIRCAS Tropical Agriculture Research Front Technical Support Office, namely, SHIKINA Yasuteru, MAETSU Masahide, and HATERUMA Yuto, received the Award for Creativity for their achievement entitled "Invention of a low-cost observation system for solute dynamics in soil". The award is given to those who have contributed to the advancement of technology in their fields through outstanding originality and ingenuity.
Rural Development Division Director Shindo Receives 2023 JAICABE Fellow Award
On May 13, 2023, Dr. SHINDO Soji, Director of Rural Development Division, received the 2023 Japan Association of International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (JAICABE) Fellow Award. Agricultural engineering is the study of engineering technologies related to agricultural production, including infrastructure, operations, mechanization, and environmental improvement.
BNI-enabled Wheat Exhibit at the G7 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in Miyazaki
The G7 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting was held at the Seagaia Convention Center in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture on April 22-23, 2023, and JIRCAS, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), set up an exhibition booth to introduce BNI-enabled wheat to G7 ministers, government officials and international organizations such as FAO.
JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program FY2023
JIRCAS is now accepting applications for the JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program FY2023. This fellowship program will follow five (5) research themes at the JIRCAS Headquarters in Tsukuba or Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) in Ishigaki.
