Press Conference on the “Completion of Joint Crediting Mechanism Methodology for Rice Paddy Methane Reduction in the Philippines” Co-hosted by JIRCAS and NARO
On June 28, 2024, JIRCAS co-hosted a press conference with NARO on the completion of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) methodology for rice paddy methane reduction in the Philippines through an ADB-supported project. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
TARF Holds 18th Open House
On June 30, 2024 (Sun), the Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) of JIRCAS (JIRCAS-TARF) held its 18th Open House, its first in five years. A total of 530 people, including families, visited TARF and participated in mini-lectures and a quiz stamp rally.
Dr. Victor Kommerell, BNI-Mission Director, International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) Visits JIRCAS
On June 19th, JIRCAS welcomed Dr. Victor Kommerell, BNI-Mission Director, International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. He discussed with Mr. Koyama, President to deepen the strategic partnership between JIRCAS and CIMMYT.
He also gave a seminar on the CropSustaiN project funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation, which aims to scale-up BNI-enabled wheat globally.
Technology Catalog introduced by JIRCAS at the Workshop on Developing the Guidelines for the Reduction of Crop Burning in ASEAN
At the Workshop on Developing the Guidelines for the Reduction of Crop Burning in ASEAN held in Bali, Indonesia on May 13th and 14th, JIRCAS presented technologies that can contribute to crop burning reduction from among those listed in the technology catalog.
JIRCAS Participates in the 13th G20 Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS-G20)
The 13th Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists of G20 (MACS-G20) was held in Brazil from May 15–17, 2024. Japan was represented by Deputy Director-General SAKAIDA Teruya of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries alongside President KOYAMA Osamu and Dr. KISHII Masahiro (Senior Researcher, Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division) of JIRCAS.
JIRCAS with ERIA presented a new joint pilot study on technology diffusion at the ASEAN Agricultural R&D Meeting
On April 25th, an open session was held for ASEAN stakeholders during the 18th ASEAN Technical Working Group on Agricultural Research and Development (ATWGARD) meeting in Singapore, where development partners provided inputs to ATWGARD representatives from ASEAN countries.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, Dr. Johari Abdul, Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, visited the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and exchanged views with senior officials, including President KOYAMA Osamu.
First-Year Students from Tokyo Metropolitan High School of Science and Technology Visit JIRCAS for SSH Overnight Study Program
On Thursday, May 30, 2024, 37 first-year students and 2 teachers from Tokyo Metropolitan High School of Science and Technology visited the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) as part of their SSH (Super Science High Schools) overnight study program.
Research Findings Presented at the 10th World Water Forum
From May 18 to 25, 2024, at the 10th World Water Forum held on Bali Island, Republic of Indonesia, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) exhibited its research achievements, including alternate wetting and drying (AWD) irrigation and Subak research, and provided explanations to many visitors, including researchers, government officials, and students (from middle school to university).
Overview of SATREPS Project Presented at Mekong River Commission Expert Group Meeting in Cambodia
On May 23, 2024, researchers from the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) participated in the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Expert Group Meeting on Irrigation Technology in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
