From November 26 to 28, 2025 (Wednesday–Friday), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries hosted the Agribusiness Creation Fair 2025 at Tokyo Big Sight, West Hall 3. The event brings together the latest research achievements in the agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and food sectors from industry, academia, government, and startups, with the aim of showcasing these results and promoting matchmaking between exhibitors and visitors.
This year, universities, local governments, national research and development agencies, and private companies exhibited a wide range of cutting-edge technologies and research outcomes. A variety of programs were also held—including keynote lectures, specialized seminars, and matchmaking tours—enhancing mechanisms to promote collaboration among industry, academia, and government, as well as the creation of startups.
The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) exhibited its research achievements focusing on the following topics:
- Progress on BNI-enhanced wheat, which enables reduced nitrogen fertilizer use
- International deployment of next-generation biomass upcycling technologies
- Early-morning flowering traits that help mitigate heat-induced sterility in rice, and collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)
- Rice breeding in Madagascar using the MP3 gene
- An infiltration method for plant genetic analysis that does not require freezing reagents
- Seed production technology for the red seaweed “Kagikenori”
These initiatives attracted considerable attention as sustainable and efficient agricultural solutions to the increasingly severe global challenges of climate change and resource constraints.
Throughout the exhibition, many visitors stopped by the JIRCAS booth, providing a valuable opportunity to present our research and activities directly. We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who visited and showed interest in our work.
