JIRCAS Showcases Agricultural Innovation at Agribusiness Creation Fair 2023

The research results of JIRCAS were exhibited at the "Agribusiness Creation Fair 2023" organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and held at Tokyo Big Sight, South Hall 2 from November 20 to 22, 2023.

From November 20 (Mon) to November 22 (Wed), 2023, JIRCAS presented its research results at the "Agribusiness Creation Fair 2023," a collaborative initiative organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and held at Tokyo Big Sight, South Hall 2 during the aforementioned dates.

This event served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of technological advances in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and food. Participants from various sectors, including industry, academia, and government, gathered to present the latest research results from across Japan. Through exhibitions and presentations, the fair aimed to facilitate collaboration among research institutions and foster partnerships between these institutions and businesses.

This year's edition featured the presentation of cutting-edge research outputs from 139 research institutes nationwide. Expert lectures covered various fields, addressing projects aligned with the Sustainable Food System Strategy "MIDORI," unveiled by MAFF in May 2022, as well as initiatives focused on startup creation.

JIRCAS took the opportunity to display panels and samples of wheat highlighting the advances made with BNI-enhanced wheat. This innovative wheat variety, previously exhibited at the G7 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting, demonstrated its ability to significantly reduce nitrogen fertilizer application. The displays also explained a rice fertilizer application technique known as "phosphorus dipping" and a breakthrough organic fertilizer production method using low-grade phosphorus ore, a strategic response to rising global chemical fertilizer prices. In collaboration with the Sasakawa Africa Foundation, the exhibition introduced the Nippon Foundation's international cooperation project "TERRA Africa" (Technology Development for the Establishment of Environmentally Regenerative Agriculture in Africa).

Throughout the exhibition, the JIRCAS booth attracted a large number of visitors and received positive feedback from people familiar with or curious about JIRCAS. The encouraging sentiments expressed by visitors, such as "I know or have heard of JIRCAS," underscored the organization's impact and recognition within the agricultural research community.
