JIRCAS presented an exhibit featuring research activities related to IoT research at the Agribusiness Creation Fair 2019 held from November 20-22, 2019 at Tokyo Big Sight West 4 Hall in Ariake, Tokyo. This annual fair introduces the latest research results in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food, and other fields in industry and academia nationwide in an easy-to-understand manner through exhibitions and presentations, and encourages collaboration with research institutions and businesses.
The JIRCAS booth featured display panels on themes related to IoT research as follows: (1) Improvement of rice grain yield by predicting the optimum sowing period for rainfed rice areas in the Asian monsoon region; (2) Non-destructive shoot biomass evaluation for field-grown staking yam; (3) Estimation of rice grain yield by canopy hyperspectral sensing of paddy fields at the booting stage; and (4) A farm management model for assisting smallholder farmers in Africa.
JIRCAS aims to put these research results into practical use and to disseminate the technology in rural areas in collaboration with research institutions in Japan and overseas, in order to contribute in achieving global food security in the future.
