Symposium Marks 50th Anniversary Milestone for JIRCAS Southeast Asia Liaison Office
The JIRCAS Southeast Asia Liaison Office in Bangkok, Thailand was established in 1972 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. With no travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a 50th anniversary symposium was held on December 14, 2023.

JIRCAS Showcases Agricultural Innovation at Agribusiness Creation Fair 2023
The research results of JIRCAS were exhibited at the "Agribusiness Creation Fair 2023" organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and held at Tokyo Big Sight, South Hall 2 from November 20 to 22, 2023.
JIRCAS Welcomes 207 High School Students from 5 Prefectures in November
In cooperation with the Tsukuba Science Tour Office, JIRCAS has been actively responding to visit requests from junior high and high schools within and outside Ibaraki Prefecture. In November, 207 students arrived from high schools in Gunma, Okinawa, Tochigi, Fukushima, and Saitama prefectures.

JIRCAS and Can Tho University convened their annual project meeting on November 30th in Can Tho City, located in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The purpose of the meeting was to share research plans and progress for the current fiscal year.

Dr. SHINDO Soji, the Director of the Rural Development Division at JIRCAS, was honored with the prestigious International Society of Paddy and Water Environment (PAWEES) International Award during the 2023 International Conference held in Busan, Korea, from October 23 to 25, 2023.

Event Co-hosted by KAKENHI Integrated Sciences for Sustainable Human-Aqua Environment Project and JIRCAS Supported by Ishigaki City Explores the Future of Ishigaki Island
Organized by KAKENHI Integrated Sciences for Sustainable Human-Aqua Environment Project and JIRCAS under the cooperation of Ishigaki City, a workshop was held to discuss the future of Ishigaki Island. Participants were invited from sectors in agriculture, environment, tourism, education, and high school students in Ishigaki City. A following public seminar presented various research efforts focusing on the water cycle and the result of the workshop. Many thanks to those who participated in the workshop and the seminar!!

Dr. IWASAKI Shin-ya, Researcher in the Rural Development Division, received the Best Oral Presentation Award for Young Scientist at the annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition (JSSSPN) held at Ehime University.
