Two JIRCAS Projects Under SATREPS Officially Start Joint Research Collaboration

Two JIRCAS research projects adopted in FY2021 under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program jointly implemented by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been approved by the partner countries and will now officially start joint research, replacing the previous conditional collaboration.

Two research projects adopted in FY2021 under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program jointly implemented by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been approved with the conclusion of the Record of Discussions (RD) with the partner countries. The following projects will now officially start joint research, replacing the previous conditional collaboration.

1.       Strengthening Tropical Forest Resilience Based on Management and Utilization of Genetic Resources Capable of Climate Change Adaptation(Environment/Energy)

Principal Investigator: TANI Naoki (Senior Researcher, Forestry Division), Sub-Principal Investigator: KONDO Toshiaki (Senior Researcher, Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division)

Partner Institution: Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia

2.       Establishment of Nitrogen-efficient Wheat Production Systems in Indo-Gangetic Plains by the Deployment of BNI-technologyBioresources

Principal Investigator: TOBITA Satoshi (Specially Assigned Investigator, Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division), Sub-Principal Investigator: YOSHIHASHI Tadashi (Senior Researcher, Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division)

Partner Institution: Borlaug Institute of South Asia (BISA), India 

SATREPS is a Japanese government program implemented as part of strengthening "Science and Technology Diplomacy" and promotes international joint research on global-scale issues based on the needs of developing countries.

Through the activities of SATREPS, including the above two projects, JIRCAS will contribute to addressing global issues through international collaborative research.
