Information

For people around the world, seafood resources are essential to a healthy diet and are culturally very important. Small-scale fisheries and aquaculture workers play a major role in in providing fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. The United Nations has designated 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022) to provide an opportunity to highlight the importance of small-scale artisanal fisheries and aquaculture for our food systems, livelihoods, culture and the environment.

On Friday, February 25, the FAO Liaison Office in Japan will host the following online seminar. In the seminar, Dr. Manuel Barange, Director of FAO's Fisheries Division, will talk about the growing importance of the role of fisheries and aquaculture in pursuing such global challenges, including the contribution of artisanal fisheries and aquaculture around the world. We hope you will join us.
