JIRCAS Participates in the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (IFNA) Meeting
As a member of the steering committee of the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (IFNA), JIRCAS participated in the high-level meeting of IFNA under the framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), held on August 27, 2019 as a side event of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7).
Bilateral meeting of JIRCAS with Niger President Issoufou Mahamadou
The President of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Issoufou Mahamadou met with JIRCAS President, Dr. Masa Iwanaga on August 27, 2019 for a bilateral discussion on collaborations that are useful for agricultural development to achieve food security in Niger.
JIRCAS participates in the MAFF seminar on the "Power of Agriculture in Transforming Africa"
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) organized a seminar on the current status of agricultural research in Africa on August 26, 2019. The seminar was in conjunction with the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) to be held in Yokohama on August 28-30, 2019.
Registration of Erianthus varieties for biofuel in Japan
Two Erianthus varieties jointly developed by JIRCAS and the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), namely, JES1 (No. 27533) and JEC1 (No. 27534), and which are suitable for production of biomass fuels, have been registered.
Registration of Two Soybean Varieties Resistant to Asian Soybean Rust in Paraguay
Two soybean varieties resistant to Asian soybean rust disease jointly developed by JIRCAS and CETAPAR have been registered as JFNC 1 and JFNC 2 in the Republic of Paraguay.
