The Republic of Tunisia, located in North Africa facing the Mediterranean Sea, is a prosperous agricultural country blessed with a warm climate and produces mainly wheat, barley, citrus fruits, olives, date palms, and other crops. In addition, Auditor ISODA Hiroko (part-time at JIRCAS and Professor at the Alliance for Research on the Mediterranean and North Africa, Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba) established the Tunisia-Japan Culture Science Academic Conference with Tunisian research institutions, and holds regular symposiums. 

Ambassador Elloumi and Pres. Koyama exchanged views on the challenges of tackling climate change in the agricultural sector and the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) to be held in Tunisia in August 2022.
