Students of Nihon University Visit JIRCAS
A group of 14 second-year students from the Department of International Development Studies, College of Bioresource Sciences, Nihon University visited JIRCAS on February 13, 2020 as part of the spring training to broaden their understanding of international research on agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and to help them determine the themes of seminars for the next academic year.
FAO Deputy Director-General Visits JIRCAS
The Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Dr. Daniel Gustafson, visited JIRCAS on January 23, 2020 and held discussions with JIRCAS President Dr. IWANAGA Masa on a wide range of topics including common areas of concern to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as global food and nutrition security and addressing climate change.
Ambassador Carlos Pere of the Republic of Panama Visits JIRCAS
Ambassador Carlos Pere of the Republic of Panama visited JIRCAS on January 14, 2020. President Iwanaga and Ambassador Pele exchanged views on partnerships in technological cooperation and potential for improving research capacity.

JIRCAS President Dr. IWANAGA Masa attended the 9th annual Council Meeting of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) held in Denpasar, Indonesia on October 6-7, 2019.
TARF Held the 49th Public Lecture “Ice Cream on the Forest, Cherimoya: Possibility of Cultivation in Ishigaki Island”
The JIRCAS Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) 49th Public Lecture “Ice Cream on the Forest, Cherimoya: Possibility of Cultivation in Ishigaki Island” introduced the characteristics of cherimoya, the world’s major cherimoya production areas, facility cultivation of cherimoya in Japan, and the current status and future prospects of cherimoya cultivation in Ishigaki Island.
SATREPS FY VARY Project Holds Workshop in Madagascar
The SATREPS project “Breakthrough in nutrient use efficiency for rice by genetic improvement and fertility sensing techniques in Africa (FY VARY Project)” organized a workshop, which also served as the mid-term evaluation of the project, at the Hotel Colbert in Antananarivo, Madagascar on December 12, 2019.
Srinakharinwirot University (Thailand) delegation visits JIRCAS
A delegation from the Faculty of Economics, Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand, including Dr. Suwimon Hengpatana (Assistant Dean), Dr. Hiroyuki Konuma (Visiting Professor), Dr. Nantarat Tangvitoontham (Assistant Professor) and graduate school students, visited JIRCAS on November 28, 2019.
JIRCAS Participation in COP25 held in Spain
JIRCAS Sub-Project Leader, Dr. Taro Izumi participated in the 25th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) and related workshops held from December 2 to 15, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.
Kumamoto Prefectural Uto Senior High School Students Visit JIRCAS
A group of first-year high school students from Kumamoto Prefectural Uto Junior and Senior High School visited JIRCAS on December 12, 2019 as part of the Super Science High School training program on experience of the future (Kanto area training).
Foreign Students from Ibaraki University Visit JIRCAS
A group of 29 students from Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka in the Graduate School of Agriculture, Ibaraki University visited JIRCAS on December 4, 2019 as part of the Regional Sustainability Course.
