Dr. UEDA Yoshiaki, Senior Researcher in the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division at the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 (The 24th) Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists.
This prestigious award is presented to promising young and mid-career researchers under the age of 40 who have made remarkable contributions to the advancement of agricultural science in support of the sustainable development of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and related industries. For the 2025 award cycle, 11 recipients were selected through a rigorous review process conducted by the Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences Selection Committee. The award spans a wide range of agricultural disciplines, including life science, environmental science, biological production, food science, and international contributions.
Dr. Ueda was highly recognized for his research on “Plant Nutrient Stress Responses and Resistance Mechanisms.” His work has elucidated the molecular-level responses and resistance mechanisms of plants facing nutrient deficiencies such as nitrogen and phosphorus, contributing to the development of crop varieties resilient to environmental fluctuations.
The award ceremony and recipient lectures will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 1:00 PM at the Yayoi Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, The University of Tokyo.
