The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) will host a special event at Expo 2025 Osaka, titled “The Wisdom of the Andes and the Technology of Japan —Supporting the Future of Food and Environment.” This event will showcase the research achievements of the SATREPS Bolivia Project and highlight the richness of Bolivian agriculture and food culture.

The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) will host a special event at Expo 2025 Osaka, titled “The Wisdom of the Andes and the Technology of Japan —Supporting the Future of Food and Environment.” This event will showcase the research achievements of the SATREPS Bolivia Project and highlight the richness of Bolivian agriculture and food culture.

Designed for a wide audience—from general visitors to experts—the event will present sustainable agricultural practices and food wisdom from the Andes highlands, alongside the role of Japanese science and technology. It aims to foster new connections between Bolivia and Japan.

With the theme of “Learning, Experiencing, and connecting,” the event blends the natural and cultural heritage of the Andes with Japanese innovation, offering a space to reflect on building a sustainable future. Visitors will enjoy an engaging and informative program that deepens understanding of global food and environmental issues.

Program Highlights

  1. Introduction to the SATREPS Bolivia Project
    Researchers from JIRCAS and local partners will present the project’s objectives, research activities, and achievements in an accessible way.
  2. Discovering Andean Animals
    Learn about llamas and other camelid species that support agriculture in the Bolivian highlands, through engaging photos and videos.
  3. International Talk Session
    Bolivian researchers and stakeholders will join JIRCAS experts in a dialogue on local initiatives, research impacts, and future perspectives, with time for audience questions.
  4. Music and Dance Performances
    Experience live performances of traditional Andean folklore music and dances, fostering cultural exchange through vibrant artistic expression.

Pre-Event: Global Festa JAPAN 2025
Ahead of the Expo, JIRCAS will also present SATREPS Bolivia’s research at Japan’s largest international cooperation event, Global Festa JAPAN 2025. The exhibit will spotlight the superfood quinoa, which thrives in extreme highland conditions, through displays and panel discussions.
