At the Panasonic Group pavilion, “Nomo no Kuni," at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, the innovative “PALM LOOP®"— developed through the SATREPS Oil Palm Trunk (OPT) Project—has been adopted as an interior material for the VIP reception room, showcasing a significant technological achievement.
“PALM LOOP®" is a wood-based material made from OPTs and other discarded materials from Malaysian oil palm plantations. It was developed as part of a collaborative effort between JIRCAS, local research institutions, and private companies to effectively utilize unused biomass resources. This material has been commercialized by Panasonic Housing Solutions Co., Ltd. as a sustainable solution that balances forest conservation and waste reduction.
In this exhibition, “PALM LOOP®" is used as an interior material in the VIP reception room of “Nomo no Kuni," adding to the aesthetic appeal of the space. Although general visitors cannot directly view the material, it serves as an important example of Japan's sustainable technology being showcased to the international community.
We are pleased that the high-value-added technology developed through the SATREPS project for palm biomass is being utilized on such a global stage. We will continue to promote similar research, development, and social implementation efforts in the future.
