""

Although the ocean occupies 71% of the Earth's surface, it has long been neglected in the global environmental policy processes. In response to this situation, the prime ministers of Norway and Palau convened the leaders of 14 countries, including Japan, to set up a high-level panel to protect the benefits that humankind has enjoyed from the marine environment.

The panel requested researchers in marine science to review the literature on the state of the seas and the benefits they provide. The Nature journal published a collection of reports from researchers providing scientific evidence on the serious state of health and the rationale for sustainable management of the ocean.

JIRCAS contributes to the sustainable management of the ocean through the development of stable shrimp cultivation technology and the development of technologies for sustainable aquatic production in harmony with tropical ecosystems.
