The 6th International Rice Congress (IRC), hosted by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), marked a milestone by being held in the Philippines for the first time. Among the highlights was a symposium titled "Promoting the Implementation of Scalable Agricultural Technologies in the Asia-Monsoon Region" on October 17, where JIRCAS researchers collaborated with colleagues from the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO).

From November 22-23, 2023, the ASEAN Forum convened in Jakarta, Indonesia, marking a collaborative effort between the ASEAN Secretariat and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). JIRCAS played a pivotal role by disseminating the "Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region" among attendees. 

 As one of the events of  AIM for Climate at COP28, an international initiative launched to accelerate innovation in agriculture and food systems to address climate change, a seminar was held on December 10, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to introduce Green Asia, a project of JIRCAS.

The third meeting of the International Scientific Advisory Board was held in Tokyo (hybrid) on September 21, 2023.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) launched the national initiative known as the Sustainable Food System Strategy "MIDORI" in May 2021. Based on this initiative, MAFF initiated the "Green Asia" project to promote the application of technologies that contribute to climate change mitigation and sustainable agriculture in the Asia-Monsoon region, which is currently being implemented by JIRCAS.

The Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) is a G20 initiative dedicated to strengthening knowledge sharing to support capacity building in agricultural innovation in the tropical regions. The most recent issue of the "TAP Newsletter” features a catalog of technologies that contribute to both increased productivity and sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon region. 

The United Nations Food System Summit was held in September 2021. Following that, a meeting for stocktaking is scheduled to take place every two years. The first of these meetings, known as the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+2), is being held for three days starting today, July 24th, at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and JIRCAS will host an official UNFSS+2 side event on July 24.

With the launching of the Sustainable Food Systems Strategy “MeaDRI” in May 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) is promoting the application of agricultural technologies which enhance production potentials and ensure sustainable food systems. From FY2022, MAFF has initiated the project “Accelerating application of agricultural technologies which enhance production potentials and ensure sustainable food systems in the Asia-Monsoon region”, which is now being implementing at JIRCAS under the name of the "Green Asia” project. The 2nd meeting of the International Scientific Advisory Board for Strategy “MeaDRI” was held on March 16, 2023.

The 11th JICA-JISNAS Forum on "Global Trends in Food Security and Human Resource Development in Agricultural Universities and Faculties" will be held in hybrid format on December 19 (Mon), 2022. The forum, in which JIRCAS will also participate as a speaker, will deepen insight into the global trends in food security and the efforts being made in Japan and abroad, and discuss the actual situation, challenges, and improvement measures for human resource development, including study abroad programs, in agricultural universities and faculties, which are responsible for solving this issue.

Based on its many years of experience in international research collaboration in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, JIRCAS has been working on the project “Accelerating application of agricultural technologies which enhance production potentials and ensure sustainable food systems in the Asia-Monsoon region” since FY2022 as an implementing agency assigned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. On October 25, the first meeting of the International Scientific Advisory Board for Strategy “MeaDRI” was held in Tokyo and there was a lively exchange of views and advice on the activities of the project.

The FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2022 side-event Creating Sustainable Food Systems in Asia-Monsoon Region through Science and Innovation organized by JIRCAS was held online on October 13, 2022.
