Project Leader TSUJIMOTO Receives the 20th Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists
Dr. TSUJIMOTO Yasuhiro, Project Leader in the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division of JIRCAS has been awarded the 20th Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists, for his research on the development and dissemination of effective rice fertilization technology suitable for cultivation environments in Africa. The award is given by the Foundation of Agricultural Sciences of Japan to young researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of agriculture.
In November 2021, Dr. FUJITA Yasunari, Project Leader of the Bioresources and Post-harvest Division of JIRCAS, has been selected by Clarivate Analytics of the USA as a Highly Cited Researcher in the field of Plant and Animal Sciences for the eighth consecutive year.
The Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit (N4G) will be held on December 7 and 8, 2021. Prior to this, the 2021 Global Nutrition Report was published on November 23, 2021. This year's report shows that progress in improving nutrition is extremely slow. Our current diet is a major threat to our health and the planet, but it has not improved in the past decade. For example, intake of fruits and vegetables is about half of the recommended amount. On the eve of the Tokyo N4G, JIRCAS, in collaboration with the FAO Liaison Office in Japan and supported by the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), will host the Symposium "Fruits and Vegetables– Research and Action Opportunities for Human and Planetary Health”, as an official N4G side event. “Global Renewables Outlook: Energy Transformation 2050”, formerly known as “Global Energy Transformation: a roadmap to 2050”, was published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in April 2020. This comprehensive analysis outlines the investments and technologies needed to decarbonize the energy system in line with the Paris Agreement. It also explores deeper decarbonization options for the hardest sectors, aiming to eventually cut CO2 emissions to zero.

The World Agroforestry (ICRAF) published a book entitled “Climate-Smart Agriculture: Enhancing Resilient Agricultural Systems, Landscapes, and Livelihoods in Ethiopia and Beyond” with the aim of compiling climate-smart technologies and practices towards achieving increased productivity and enhanced resilience to climate change, and to provide guidance for academic, policy, research, outreach and development stakeholders in applying climate-smart technologies.
