The Biomass Energy-Materials Conference & Expo 2018 (Biomass Expo 2018) was held on May 30 to June 1, 2018 at the East Hall of the Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake, Tokyo. The Biomass Expo is a showcase for Japan’s biomass power generation, heat utilization, fuel, livestock feed, excrement processing, composting etc. The JIRCAS booth featured activities on biomass research and the latest research achievements on utilization of local resources in developing regions. A lecture entitled “East Asian Biomass Sustainability and Challenge to Bioeconomy” was also presented by Dr. Akihiko Kosugi, Project Leader of the research program on utilization of local resources. The 3-day expo gathered a total of 41,354 visitors.
